If you wish to remain anonymous, perhaps meet the person at the mailboxes or tell them where the item can be picked up.
If the item is heavy, be sure to tell them if they will need to bring extra help and if steps are included.
If the item needs to be dismantled, be sure to tell that and explain what tools they may need.

I think this could be a great place to pass along good, usable items.
